SWB charter

Sport Without Borders' ethical charter

Sport Without Borders is governed in accordance with the French “law of July 1st, 1901”, which pertains to non-profit organizations. SWB’s purpose is to promote access, throughout the world, to sports activities for all, and the use of Physical and Sports Activities (PSAs) for educational ends.
The actions of Sport Without Borders are governed by this charter, which sets out the framework for our ethical approach to intervention.

Integrated Development

Sport Without Borders works on projects that meet a local need, as expressed by organizations or individuals working in the social and educational sectors of society, with at-risk populations. From programme inception to a point of ultimate autonomy, Sport Without Borders works collaboratively with local actors in the development of its programmes. SWB is committed to ensuring that local actors take ownership of projects, and puts in place all the necessary tools and training for project sustainability.

Respect for local cultures and traditions

Working specifically in the education and social fields, Sport Without Borders pledges to tailor its actions to the knowledge, practices, and socio-economic structures that exist on the ground. Equally, SWB promotes the training and hiring of local employees, in local languages, whilst respecting local religions, local educational principals, and local views with respect to time.

Buying Locally / Promoting Local Initiatives

In line with its target of sustainable development, Sport Without Borders aims to buy local materials and sports equipment whenever possible. Additionally, it advocates for the establishment of local micro-industry which can manufacture and repair sports equipment.

Monitoring activity in the field

Sport Without Borders takes every step to ensure that all resources and sports equipment destined for use in its various programmes reach the users as intended. Regular checks and balances are systematically built into every programme, even at the close of the operational phase.

Independance and Neutrality

Sport Without Borders acts in strict accordance with its own guiding principles, and does not, at any point, adjust its policies according to domestic or foreign political interests. Sport Without Borders is committed to a non-denominational status, choosing projects and collaborators solely on the basis of those criteria outlined in the this charter.

Transparency

Sport Without Borders is committed to offering complete transparency to partners, donors, and beneficiaries, with respect to the allocation of resources, and is committed to doing everything in its power to ensure good governance. SWB aspires to work only with those partners who hold a similar regard for the principle of transparency, both in terms of finance and in terms of ultimate goals and objectives.

Anyone contributing to a Sport Without Borders programme must act in accordance with this charter.
